10ft Standard and High Cube Shipping Containers

Container Projects supplies compact storage solutions to commercial and domestic clients throughout the country. If you require a permanent onsite asset, we offer container sales for various grades of stock. For temporary projects, our container hire service provides flexibility without a long-term commitment. You can request a container quote to receive specific details for your site. We manage the supply and logistics to ensure your 10ft standard and high-cube units are delivered efficiently.

Technical dimensions and specifications

The 10ft container is a popular choice for sites with limited space. Container Projects stocks both standard-height and high-cube variants. Use the responsive table below to compare measurements for your placement area.

10ft Specification Length (mm) Width (mm) Height (mm)
External (Standard) 2991 2438 2591
External (High Cube) 2991 2438 2896
Internal (Standard) 2840 2350 2390
Internal (High Cube) 2840 2350 2690

Container Projects provides weight data for lifting and loading. Tare is the weight of an empty container. Payload is the maximum weight of cargo the unit can safely hold. For a 10ft unit, the tare is approximately 1300kg, and the payload is approximately 8800kg. If you require more vertical clearance, the high cube variant offers an additional foot of height.

Hire or buy

Selecting between purchase and rental depends on the duration of your requirement. Container Projects recommends hiring for short-term projects like construction site storage or temporary seasonal stock. Buying is preferred for permanent installations or for customers planning container conversions, such as workshops or offices. We also operate a container buy-back service for customers who no longer require their units after a fixed period of ownership.

Condition grades and definitions

The grade of the container affects its aesthetic appearance and longevity. Container Projects stocks three primary grades.

  • One-trip: A one-trip unit is a container manufactured in Asia, used once for cargo transport to the UK, and arriving in near-new condition.
  • Wind and watertight: Wind and watertight is a condition grade ensuring the unit prevents weather ingress and protects contents from light and moisture.
  • IICL: IICL refers to repair and inspection standards set by the International Institute of Container Lessors, representing high-quality used stock.

Delivery access, siting, and placement

Successful delivery requires careful site preparation. Container Projects uses container haulage vehicles equipped with hiab cranes to position the unit.

  • Space: The vehicle requires a minimum width of 10ft and vertical clearance of 15ft.
  • Ground: Placement must be on firm level ground such as concrete, tarmac, or compacted gravel. Uneven ground can cause the unit to twist, leading to door alignment issues.
  • Obstructions: Check for overhead cables and low-hanging tree branches that could interfere with crane operations.

Security, condensation, and aftercare

Container Projects prioritises security for all units. We include a factory-fitted lockbox to protect the padlock from bolt croppers. Condensation can be managed using Grafo-therm anti-condensation coating, which prevents moisture from dripping onto stored goods. Long-term aftercare involves regular lubrication of the door hinges and checking the rubber seals to ensure the unit remains weather-tight throughout its lifespan.

Export use and compliance

If you intend to use a container for international shipping, it must have a valid CSC plate. A CSC plate is a safety approval plate required for international transport under the International Convention for Safe Containers. While many 10ft units are used for domestic storage, Container Projects ensures all units destined for export meet the necessary structural standards.
