8ft Container specifications

The 8ft unit is a specialised compact container designed for sites with restricted space. It is built from high-strength Corten steel and features a marine plywood floor. While smaller than standard units, it maintains the same security and weatherproofing standards as larger general-purpose containers. Use the table below to check measurements for your site.

Condition grades and definitions

We supply units in various grades to match specific user needs. Each term describes the container's structural and aesthetic state.

• One-trip: A one-trip unit is a container manufactured and used once for cargo transport to the UK. These units are in near-new condition and are ideal for high-visibility sites.
• Wind and watertight: Wind and watertight is a condition grade ensuring the unit prevents weather ingress and protects contents from light and moisture. These are typically used units with some surface rust and dents.
• IICL: The International Institute of Container Lessors sets high repair standards for leased units. These containers are structurally superior to used stock.

Delivery access, siting, and placement

Successful delivery depends on precise site preparation and clear access for our container haulage vehicles. We use hiab trucks equipped with cranes to lift and position the units.

• Access width: The delivery vehicle requires a minimum width of 10ft for safe transit.
• Vertical clearance: Ensure there is at least 15ft of vertical space, free from low branches or cables.
• Ground surface: Place the container on firm level ground such as concrete, tarmac, or compacted gravel. Soft ground causes the unit to sink, potentially misaligning the doors.
• Manoeuvring space: The truck needs significant room to turn and extend its stabilising legs before lifting the container.

Security, condensation, and aftercare

Container Projects Ltd prioritises cargo protection. Every 8ft unit includes a factory-fitted lockbox to shroud the padlock and prevent tampering. Condensation can occur in steel units due to temperature changes. We offer Grafo-therm anti-condensation coating to the internal ceiling to absorb moisture. Regular aftercare involves lubricating door hinges and checking the rubber seals to ensure the unit remains weather-tight throughout its life.

Export use and compliance

Containers used for international shipping must have a valid CSC plate. A CSC plate is a safety approval plate required for international transport under the International Convention for Safe Containers. While 8ft units are primarily used for domestic storage, Container Projects Ltd ensures all export-grade units meet these global safety regulations.
