Chemical Storage Shipping Containers

Container Projects manages the supply of high-grade chemical storage units for industrial and commercial sectors. We offer professional chemical container sales and flexible container hire to meet site-specific safety requirements. To receive a bespoke technical specification, you can get a quote through our regional logistics team. Our fleet includes one-trip units for long-term use. A one-trip unit is a new container that has made a single journey from the manufacturer to the UK. These units feature integral sumps and high-level ventilation to prevent the accumulation of hazardous vapours.

Choose the right chemical storage container size

Selecting the correct size depends on the volume of hazardous material and available ground space. Container Projects stocks standard and specialised dimensions for various chemical storage needs.

Small COSHH Units

The 8ft chemical storage unit is suitable for sites with limited space. It provides secure containment for smaller quantities of drums or IBCs. These units include a raised steel mesh floor over a liquid-tight sump to capture leaks or spills.

20ft and 30ft Storage Solutions

For larger industrial applications, the 20ft unit is the industry standard. It provides approximately 33 cubic metres of internal volume. We also supply 30ft chemical storage units for high-volume hazardous inventory. These larger containers are often used by manufacturing plants and construction companies to house bulk stocks of fuels and lubricants.

Technical Specifications

Each chemical unit features standard double doors for wide access. Internal walls are typically made of corrugated steel. To browse all available dimensions, visit our container dimensions page.

Hire or buy

Container Projects assists businesses in choosing the correct procurement path. Buying a unit is recommended for permanent site facilities or long-term hazardous waste management. Hire is a cost-effective solution for short-term projects or temporary site requirements. We provide full aftercare and support for both purchase and rental equipment across the United Kingdom.

Condition grades and what they mean

Condition is vital for the integrity of sumps and seals. New one-trip units offer the highest level of safety and aesthetic quality. For used equipment, Container Projects provides units that meet the IICL standard. IICL refers to a high standard of container repair and condition set by the Institute of International Container Lessors. For basic storage needs, we offer used units graded as wind and watertight. A wind and watertight unit is a condition grade ensuring the unit is sealed against weather and light.

Delivery access, siting, and placement

Container Projects uses container haulage vehicles fitted with hiab cranes for precise placement. Successful delivery requires specific site conditions:

  • Surface: Units must sit on firm, level ground, such as concrete or hard-standing, to ensure the sump remains level and the doors operate correctly.
  • Access: Delivery vehicles require a minimum width of 10ft. Extra space is needed for the crane outriggers during offloading.
  • Clearance: Check for overhead cables or low branches. A hiab truck needs a minimum vertical clearance of 15ft.
  • Weight: Be aware of the unit's tare and payload. The tare is the weight of the empty container. The payload is the maximum weight of cargo the container can carry.

Security, condensation, and aftercare

Security is paramount when storing hazardous materials. Container Projects installs factory-fitted lock boxes to protect padlocks from tampering. High-level and low-level vents are standard to manage condensation and vapour build-up. Aftercare involves regular inspections of the sump for spilled liquids and greasing the door hinges to maintain ease of access.

Export use and compliance

If you intend to ship a chemical container internationally, it must maintain a valid CSC plate. A CSC plate is a safety approval plate required for international shipping. Container Projects ensures all export-grade container types are structurally certified for maritime transport. We provide all necessary documentation to ensure your unit meets global shipping standards.
