Freezer Shipping Containers

Container Projects supplies temperature-controlled equipment to industrial and commercial sectors. We manage professional container sales and flexible container hire for businesses requiring sub-zero storage solutions. To receive technical specifications for your site, get a quote through our enquiry system. We maintain inventory at major UK depots to ensure prompt delivery and technical support.

Our freezer units are available as one-trip stock. A one-trip unit is a new container that has made a single journey from the manufacturer to the UK. Every freezer unit intended for international transport features a valid CSC plate. A CSC plate is a safety approval plate required for international shipping to certify structural safety. These units are built with stainless steel internal linings and T-bar aluminium floors to facilitate optimal airflow and hygiene.

Choose the right freezer container size

Selecting a unit depends on your storage volume and site footprint. Freezer containers, also known as reefers, typically operate between -25°C and +25°C.

10ft Freezer Containers

The 10ft refrigerated freezer is a compact solution for restricted urban sites or small-scale catering businesses. It offers internal storage for up to 4 standard pallets while requiring minimal ground space. These units are often used for seasonal overflow or event cold storage.

20ft Freezer Containers

The 20ft thermal unit is the industry standard for medium-scale storage. It provides a balance between internal volume and transportability. These units require a 3-phase power supply to operate the refrigeration machinery and are designed to maintain consistent temperatures even in high ambient conditions.

40ft High Cube Freezer Containers

For large-scale logistics, the 40ft thermal high cube unit provides maximum capacity. The high cube configuration offers an extra foot of vertical clearance, which is essential for stacking palletised goods or installing racking systems. You can view all container types and their capacities on our technical overview page.

Hire or buy

Container Projects assists clients in determining the most efficient procurement route. Buying a freezer container is a long-term investment for permanent site facilities or dedicated export operations. Hire is a cost-effective alternative for short-term projects, equipment testing, or seasonal demand. We provide comprehensive maintenance support for all rental units across the United Kingdom.

Condition grades and technical standards

The condition of the refrigeration motor and insulation is critical for performance. We supply used units that meet the IICL standard. IICL refers to a high standard of container repair and condition set by the Institute of International Container Lessors. For static storage of non-sensitive items, some users choose units that are wind and watertight. A wind and watertight unit is a condition grade ensuring the unit is sealed against weather and light. We confirm the tare and payload of every unit before dispatch. The tare is the weight of the empty container. The payload is the maximum weight of cargo the container can carry.

Delivery access, siting, and power

Container Projects coordinates container haulage using hiab crane vehicles. Siting a freezer container requires specific technical preparations:

  • Power Supply: Most freezer units require a 3-phase 32amp power connection with a 5-pin plug.
  • Ground Conditions: The unit must sit on a firm, level surface like concrete to support the weight and ensure the doors seal correctly.
  • Access Clearance: Delivery trucks require a minimum height of 15ft and a width of 10ft.
  • Manoeuvring: A 40ft delivery vehicle requires approximately 100ft of straight approach to position the unit.

Security, condensation, and aftercare

Security is managed through heavy-duty locking bars and factory-fitted lock boxes. Unlike standard steel units, freezer containers have insulated polyurethane walls, which naturally prevent condensation. Container Projects provides aftercare advice, including regular cleaning of the T-bar floor and inspection of the door gaskets to maintain thermal efficiency. We recommend regular servicing of the motor to prevent operational downtime.

Export use and compliance

For international transport of perishables, your unit must carry a valid CSC plate and a current Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI) certificate. Container Projects ensures all export units are tested and certified before they leave the depot. We support our clients with the documentation required by maritime shipping lines for refrigerated cargo.

How Container Projects handles supply and delivery

  1. Specification confirmation: We review your temperature requirements and required container dimensions.
  2. Stock allocation: We identify a suitable unit from our closest UK depot to reduce transport distances.
  3. Site verification: Our logistics team checks your power availability and site access constraints.
  4. Dispatch: We schedule a hiab delivery, typically within 7 to 10 working days.
  5. Handover: The driver positions the unit and confirms the refrigeration motor starts correctly.

Frequently asked questions

What power supply do I need for a freezer container?

Standard units require a 3-phase 380 V/440 V supply. Contact our team to discuss power requirements for smaller 10ft units, which may have different specifications.

Can I use a freezer container for ambient storage?

Yes, the thermostat can be set to positive temperatures, and the insulation makes them excellent for storing moisture-sensitive goods. More details are available on our faq page.

Do you offer 24/7 technical support?

Container Projects provides technical assistance for hire units to ensure your temperature-sensitive cargo remains protected. Learn more about us and our service standards.
